Thank you so much everyone we have more than hit our target – with the extra we will have raised we intend to buy a couple more harnesses and helmets and also another rope. Feel free still to give – as at the moment we are buying the minimum we need. Any money raised on top of the £1200 will still go towards this project to buy a few more bits of equipment.
Okay, so as many of you know I am a bit of an outdoor freak and love anything that involves climbing, mountain biking, or anything that might turn normal people away! Well anyway, I have been given permission to start setting up a new activity project for the youth and children in the restoration houses for Bernabe. This will involve taking a group of young people climbing once a week.
The problem being is that as this is a brand spanking new project for them there is no equipment here, apart from my own personal climbing gear, which is unsuitable for what we will be doing. This means that we need to buy all the gear, which is very hard to get out here as there are few places that stock (I know of one shop in La Paz, which is very expensive and has limited stock), and so we are looking at getting all the gear bought in the UK and shipped out here.
UPDATE – we have now managed to secure a 20% discount on all purchases from Taunton Leisure making them the cheapest for all the goods we are purchasing. Please see the letter below for details on how to claim this.
UPDATE 2 – we have now managed to secure a larger bulk discount with another company – Needle Sports in Keswick – for the gear we need – because of this we are now asking if you could give cash donations, rather than a donation of gear, using the form available below. This drops the cost of the project down to £1,200 – a great discount! Thanks Needle Sports!
We also have a new JustGiving page just for this project.
At the moment we are looking at an initial cost of about £2,000-£2,500. We are looking at approaching companies in the UK, but also individuals to help towards this total. If you would like to get involved by buying a piece of equipment please do look at the documents below:
Taunton Leisure Discount Letter
The idea behind this project originates from work done in the UK amongst young children with low attendance and behavoural problems. It follows the pattern of PAYP (Positice Activities for Young People), a brand from the Connexions organisation, where involving young people in positive activities gives them an opportunity to fuel their energy into something constructive.
