September 2008

¡Hola!

En este momente estoy de buen humor! (First one to email me with a correct translation gets a prize lol!) Just a quick update to let you all know that language lessons are going well, and all in all everything is good fun! This weekend I went to a party held by a youth group and organised lots of crazy games, I did lots of Spanish speaking and also went to a women´s conference!!!!!!!! (Basically Maribel – who I am living with – was the guest speaker and so myself and Louis went up on Sunday to the service which lasted from 9am until 3pm and we left early!!!)

Spanish is going well – es muy dificil, but I am getting there! Also, on the house front I should be moving in with a family for a few months until I finish language training at the weekend. They live in Llojeta which is quite a way out of the centre but is close to where Louis and Maribel live.

Anyway I must go…..

Will try and do a prayer update in the next few days.

Hi guys

Will try and keep this short, sweet and to the point as a lot has changed!!!! :) Basically American Airlines have cancelled flights to Bolivia at least until the end of the week and so flying Thursday is no longer an option. However this has meant that Latin Link have been able to cancel our flights altogether and start from scratch!!! Yey!!!! And so our flights have been rebooked!
I am flying from Manchester airport on Wednesday 17th September leaving at 0600, meeting Caroline and Lauren at Amsterdam (as they are flying from London), and then getting a flight to Lima in Peru, and then a final flight from Lima to La Paz, arriving in La Paz on Thursday 18th September at 0020 (that is 0520 UK time)!!!! Nothing like early mornings!!!!
Please do pray once again for safety on the flights and for our luggage not to get lost or stolen :)
Also, please continue to pray for the political situation in Bolivia. Today leaders from all over South America are meeting in Peru to discuss a possible way forward in Bolivia and also with US relations with the entire continent……
Blessings and thanks for your prayers so far…..

Hi everyone

I do not normally intend to use this list as a non-monthly prayer list, but I have some news which you all probably want to hear. As some of you know already I have yet to leave the UK as American Airlines have cancelled all their flights to Bolivia at the moment citing ‘civil unrest’ as their reason for doing so. At the moment I am not sure when I will be flying. There is the potential that I will fly next Thursday (18th September) however this is relying on the same route and there is no guarantee at all that we won’t get to Miami and find the next flight cancelled. The other possible option is to fly via Lima in Peru, however American Airlines are saying this would not be covered under their policy….. (interesting!).
I wanted to email you all to inform that the situation in Bolivia and in particular La Paz is not as bad as American Airlines are claiming – both the FCO and the American equivalent are still allowing travel to the country. There have been riots in the south and east of the country (La Paz is in the northwest), but Chris, who is a long term partner in Bolivia, has said that this is nothing unusual and not something they haven’t seen before. In particular the riots are against Morales’ (the Presidents’) proposed changes to the constitution. There are no concerns about our safety entering the country due to these riots.
On top of this there is the added complication that American relations with Bolivia are tense at the moment – Bolivia asked the American Ambassador to leave the country late Wednesday declaring him a persona non grata (interesting that American Airlines started cancelling their flights the next day….) and then on Thursday the Bolivian Ambassador in the USA was asked to leave.
Please pray for:
1. The Bolivian and US governments as they sort this out
2. For Latin Link as they arrange alternative flights, and also for American Airlines as they seem to chop and change what they are allowing Latin Link to do
3. For the nation of Bolivia - for peace and reconciliation between the different political factions
4. For Lauren, Caroline and myself - that we would know soon when we fly and that we would feel a sense of peace about it all and not get too frustrated
Thanks
Andy

Hi guys

Urgent prayer request. Just had a phone call from Latin Link saying there have been problems in Bolivia with more protests to the extent that the American Airlines flight I will be on tomorrow was cancelled today due to safety concerns.

Please pray tomorrow’s flight would not be cancelled, for the situation in the country atm (see BBC news and also any American news website) and also for safety for us as we go and also for the Latin Link personnel in the country, in particular any working in the Trinidad region at the moment.

Blessings

Okay, so this is not the most exciting post for all you lovely readers, but it is for me – it’s my last post in the UK for a long time!!! Whoop whoop!! This time tomorrow I will be somewhere over the Atlantic or possibly somewhere over America and probably sick of tired of airline food and films, although apparantly even economy class people on Virgin get their own television and choice of films – so my first prayer request would be a good selection of films!

Anyway on a slightly more serious note please do be praying for my arrival and travel. Pray that everything would go smoothly and that both my luggage and myself would arrive at the same time and all in one piece in La Paz…..

I thought also I should put a picture or two up before I go as I haven’t for a while and so here are a couple from training at All Nations (for more info on the training see my latest prayer update) and other leaving things:

So there we go!

Enjoy and see you all whenever!

Updates will go on here as often as possible.

Hi guys

My flights are now booked and I leave on Friday 12th September at 09:20 from London Heathrow, and arrive into La Paz on Saturday 13th September at 05:10 local time! Awesome! I then start with a few days orientation before my language training commences.
